Events Going on in Brighton in 2019

Brighton is a bustling resort that is home to a vast range of fantastic bars, restaurants and clubs. Whether you’re looking for drinking, dancing, leisure activities or live entertainment, there’s always something to do in Brighton.

As we start heading towards 2020, there’s still plenty to look forward to in 2019 including Halloween, Christmas and New Year’s Eve. If you live in Brighton or are thinking of holidaying down here in the next few months, here’ a look at some of the fantastic things you can do in Brighton in 2019:

Guru Dudu’s Silent Discoween Spooktacular

Get your spook on this Halloween with Guru Dudu’s Silent Disoween Spooktacular! These silent discos run throughout the year, but on the 26th October, you can take part in a one-off Halloween edition to get yourself in the mood for the spooks and scares that this bone-chilling night brings. Join the dance through the streets of Brighton with the headphones provided, enjoy the uplifting (and spooky) tunes, hilarious commentary and the spontaneous flash mobs as you take to the streets to sing and dance.

And if Christmas is more your thing, you can join the fun for a silent disco on the 14th December for a Christmas special.

Brighton Chocolate Festival

Who doesn’t love chocolate? Well, this one is for the chocolate lover in you; on the weekend of the 12th/13th October, you can head over to the Brighton Chocolate Festival! That’s right, an entire weekend dedicated to all things chocolatey.

Discover a selection of chocolate-themed exhibitors including award-winning chocolatiers and chocolate makers, tasting sessions, talks, samplings, pairings and the chance to find out everything you ever wanted to know about chocolate.

Musical Bingo

Everyone loves a game of bingo, and everyone loves a bit of music, so what’s not to love about Musical Bingo? With various dates from the 24th October, you can play this bingo game with a twist at the Komedia.

It’s like regular bingo, but instead of shouting out numbers they play songs! Each round takes a different theme of song choices while the players mark their bingo chards accordingly. Prizes are available for one, two and three lines as well as the grand prize for a full house. You can also expect surprises along the way with multi choice mystery boxes and the chance to gamble your grand prize winnings on a killer question – will you risk it all?

Fiery Foods Festival

Do you have an affinity for the spice of life? Well, the Fiery Foods Festival has you covered. From the 6th to the 8th September, you can join the 14th annual Fiery Foods Festival in Brighton for a celebration of spicy food, chilli in particular. You can find the festival at the seafront with over 50 stalls selling a wide variety of foods and artisan bottled products, as well as live music and the infamous chilli-eating competition at the end of each day.

Ice Skating at the Royal Pavilion

Are you looking forward to Christmas? Of course you are! And how about one of the most festive activities of them all to kick start that merry feeling: ice skating. An ice rink pops up in the centre of Brighton each winter in the Pavilion Gardens, with the magnificent Royal Pavilion palace forming the perfect backdrop.

It opens in November and is typically open each day, except Christmas day, until mid-January. Glide across the ice and bask in that Christmas spirit in Brighton this year. Or if skating isn’t your thing, there’s a place to just sit back and enjoy the atmosphere, at the rink-side bar and kitchen.

Christmas Karaoke Brunch

Christmas, karaoke and brunch? You heard that right; you can experience all this on the 14th December at Lucky Voice Brighton. Christmas Karaoke Brunch includes two hours of bottomless drinks, two hours of Christmas canapes and turkey bagels, a festive glitter artist, classic and current Christmas tunes to sing your heart out to and games and a festive quiz with the brunch host. It’s the perfect way to get in the Christmas spirit by getting a little merry and singing along to all your favourite Christmas tunes.

The Santa Dash

Still want to get in the Christmas spirit but want to incorporate it into your fitness lifestyle? Well, there’s an event for that. On the 14th December, you can take part in the Santa Dash in Brighton. It’s a 2.5k run starting from the Seafront Esplanade up to Hove Lagoon and back again. Oh, and you do the whole race while dressed as Father Christmas – they don’t call it the Santa Dash for nothing!

Burning of the Clocks

Do you fancy something a little different this Christmas? Every year on the 21st December, the people of Brighton parade through the streets with handmade paper lanterns and head towards the beach where the glowing shapes are added to a bonfire to celebrate the end of another year. The night ends with a spectacular firework display over the sea. Many people dress up in costumes that include the image of a clock face to represent the passage of time.

The Burning of the Clocks is a community event, created by Same Sky; it’s a lively celebration but also a time for reflection and to set intentions and hopes for the city’s future.

Christmas Carol Concert

There can’t be Christmas celebrations without carol singing. The Christmas Carol Concert is in The Royal Pavilion Gardens on the 12th December and is performed by two talented Sussex based choirs. The music room is the setting for the entertainment, and you can enjoy a glass of prosecco in the Banqueting Room during the interval.

NYE at the Hilton Brighton Metropole

You couldn’t ask for a better place for a fabulous New Year’s Eve celebration than Brighton. The city is full of bars, clubs and restaurants that would make the perfect setting to welcome in the new year. This includes the New Year’s Eve roaring 20s themed night at Hilton Brighton Metropole Hotel. This spectacular night includes a drinks reception, a four-course dinner, dodgems, live entertainment, a DJ and disco. Dance in the new year in this illicit den with flapper girls, jazz and bootleg gin. There’s no other way to enter 2020 than with a Gatsby-style celebration to welcome in the new age of the 20s.
